Summary
Co‐Transcriptional and posttranscriptional regulation of retroviral gene expression, comparing simple and complex retroviruses is discussed, and mechanisms to protect their unspliced RNA from decay by nonsense‐mediated RNA decay and to prevent genome editing by the cellular APOBEC deaminases are discussed.
