Ultrastructural localization of acid phosphatase in the posterior pituitary of the dehydrated rat

Summary
The total amount of AcPase per posterior lobe increased progressively to 40% above control levels after 6 days of water deprivation or salt administration, and this increase may reflect accelerated production of neuronal components in neurohypophysial cells whose secretory rate has been stimulated by elevated body osmolarity.
