Summary

To induce uncoupled metabolism, para-nitrophenol (pNP) a known protonphoric uncoupler of oxidative phosphorylation, was introduced to a bench-scale activated sludge process and showed a sustained shift in the diversity of the predominant, metabolically active species present occurred within two days.
