It is shown by elementary means that the calculation in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model of the ratio [ital m][sub [sigma]][sup 2]/[ital m];sub [ital f]][Sup 2] is ambiguous, and the ambiguity is not removed by doing the calculationIn a singular limit ([ital Z][sub 3],[ital Z).[sub 4]=0) of the linear [s Sigma] model.
