Summary

It is shown that ouabain, a cardiac glycoside inhibitor of membrane related Na+-K+-activated ATPase systems, affects membrane excitability similarly to ultraviolet radiations, which is particularly interesting considering that there appears to be a direct relationship between the activity of this ATPase system and Na+ and K+ fluxes in squid axons.
